De AJ-lampenserie wordt beschouwd als het ontwerp dat Jacobsen wereldwijd zijn meeste faam heeft opgeleverd. Naast de AJ Staande lamp bevatte de AJ-serie ook een tafellamp, een kleinere tafellamp, een wandlamp en een tafellamp, die na de opening in 1960 allemaal te vinden waren in het SAS Royal Hotel.

 

De strakke, gedistingeerde vorm van de AJ-lamp met zijn heldere licht was overal in het hotel te terug te vinden, in koper en roestvrij staal. De AJ-lampenserie was samen met de AJ Royal onderdeel van het algemene designconcept dat Jacobsen voor het hotel creëerde. Hij ontwierp praktisch alles zelf. De parallellen tussen de rechte lijnen en de combinatie van rechte en ronde hoeken in het AJ-lampontwerp zijn ook zichtbaar in de geometrische contouren van zijn gebouwen.
