Villa di Zano Chianti Classico Riserva 2020 komt uit het historische hart van Greve in Chianti en laat Sangiovese in een duidelijk serieuzere, rijpere stijl zien dan de normale Chianti Classico van het domein. De wijn is volledig van Sangiovese gemaakt en krijgt na de vergisting nog 24 maanden rijping op Sloveens en Frans eiken, wat hem extra diepte, structuur en kruidigheid geeft. Daardoor staat hier een Chianti Classico Riserva met meer kracht en lengte, zonder het verfijnde Toscaanse karakter kwijt te raken.

Wijngaarden en regio

De herkomst van deze Riserva ligt midden in het klassieke gebied van Chianti Classico.

  • Ligging / Herkomst: Villa di Zano ligt in Greve in Chianti, midden in het Chianti Classico-gebied, op ongeveer 30 km ten zuiden van Florence. Daarmee komt deze wijn uit een van de bekendste en historisch sterkste zones van de appellatie.
  • Wijngaard: De druiven voor deze Riserva komen uit de beste wijngaarden van de Chianti-regio. Dat geeft deze wijn een duidelijk selectieprofiel binnen het domein.

Vinificatie en rijping

De kelderaanpak is hier klassiek en gericht op structuur, harmonie en bewaarpotentieel.

  • Vergisting: Na de vergisting blijft de wijn eerst in roestvrijstalen tanks. Dat houdt de fruitexpressie zuiver voordat de wijn verder aan complexiteit wint.
  • Rijping / Houtopvoeding: Daarna rijpt de wijn 24 maanden in Sloveense en Franse eikenhouten vaten. Die lange opvoeding geeft hem meer diepte, kruidigheid, afronding en een steviger tanninestructuur.

Druivensamenstelling

Hier draait alles om 1 druif die in Riserva-vorm meer kracht en diepte laat zien.

  • Sangiovese – Chianti Classico: Sangiovese vormt de volledige basis en geeft de wijn zijn rijpe fruittoon, kruidigheid en verfijnde droge tannines.

Proefnotities en serveertips

Intens robijnrood in het glas, met een neus van rijp rood fruit en kruiden. In de mond is deze Riserva vol, krachtig en elegant, met aardse tonen en een duidelijke hint van zwarte peper die hem meer diepte geeft. De afdronk blijft droog, verfijnd en mooi gestructureerd doorlopen.

  • Gerechten: Gegrilde vleesgerechten en kruidige kazen sluiten hier heel natuurlijk op aan, omdat de wijn genoeg kracht en kruidigheid heeft om zulke smaken mooi te begeleiden.

De familie Folonari is al sinds 1825 actief in de Italiaanse wijnwereld en hoort daarmee bij de historische namen van Toscane. In 1967 kocht de familie het domein di Zano in Greve in Chianti, nadat zij eerder al een grote rol speelde in Ruffino en later ook bij de vroege ontwikkeling van de Super Toscanen via Cabreo. Hun visie blijft sterk op herkomst gericht: niet de familienaam, maar de eigenheid van de wijngaard moet in de wijn herkenbaar blijven.

Not bad; not your father's hermeneutics construct, however

Very different approach to hermeneutics. I think their five step construct, or "journey," is a little more complicated than it needs to be. On the other hand, the construct is helpful to the layman because it gets the reader to recognize that the biblical cultural-historical-theological frame of reference needs to be understood in today's sense before an accurate interpretation can be rendered and then properly (or correctly) applied. Rather than send the reader to a plethora of works that offer such explanations, the authors should consider adding a chapter that provides an explanation on the most common differences between then and now on the subject and leave the reader to seek more detail in these other works. As it is, I feel left wanting for this understanding. Now, I like the videos of each chapter in the electronic edition; most of these do a good job communicating the chapter.
