De Sterappel appelboom is een oud appelras met een herkenbare smaak, geur en kleur. De appels zijn donkerrood van kleur en hebben vaak licht vruchtvlees met een roze tint. Juist daardoor is de Sterappel anders dan veel moderne appelrassen.

De smaak is zachtzuur, fris en licht aromatisch. De appels zijn goed uit de hand te eten, maar kunnen ook gebruikt worden voor appelmoes of andere verwerking. Door de bijzondere geur en het ouderwetse karakter is dit ras vooral populair bij liefhebbers van oude fruitrassen.

Bloei en bestuiving

De Sterappel bloeit in april en mei met witroze bloesem. Deze bloesem trekt bijen en andere bestuivende insecten aan.

De Sterappel is niet zelfbestuivend. Voor een goede vruchtzetting heeft deze appelboom een andere appelboom in de buurt nodig. Geschikte bestuivers zijn onder andere Elstar, James Grieve, Cox Orange Pippin, Ecolette en Santana.

Oogsttijd van de Sterappel

De appels kunnen meestal eind oktober tot november geplukt worden. De Sterappel staat bekend om zijn sterke geur en karakteristieke smaak. De appels zijn vooral geschikt om vers te eten of te verwerken.

Wanneer geeft de Sterappel appelboom vrucht?

Hoe snel de boom vruchten geeft, hangt af van de maat, standplaats en verzorging. Grotere bomen met een stamomtrek van 10-12 cm en hoger zijn meestal al vruchtdragend bij levering.

  • Laagstam = na 1 tot 2 jaar vruchtdragend
  • Halfstam = na 0 tot 2 jaar vruchtdragend
  • Hoogstam = na 0 tot 2 jaar vruchtdragend

Sterappel appelboom snoeien

Snoeien kan het beste tussen januari en maart op een vorstvrije dag. Verwijder dode, beschadigde en kruisende takken. Ook waterloten en steil omhoog groeiende scheuten kunnen worden weggehaald. Deze loten kosten veel energie en dragen meestal weinig vruchten.

Houd de kroon open en luchtig, zodat zonlicht goed bij de vruchtdragende takken kan komen. Een lichte zomersnoei in juli of augustus is ook mogelijk om nieuwe waterloten te verwijderen en de groei wat te beheersen.

Standplaats en verzorging

Plant de Sterappel op een zonnige plek in voedzame, goed doorlatende grond. Zorg ervoor dat de grond niet langdurig nat blijft. Geef vooral in de eerste jaren na aanplant voldoende water tijdens droge periodes.

Een jaarlijkse bemesting in het voorjaar helpt de boom sterk en gezond te blijven. Door de boom jaarlijks licht te snoeien blijft hij beter in vorm en kan de vruchtzetting verbeteren.

So so. Could be great with few improvements

Overall, this mount is decent with good functionality and quality but a few things (short permanently affixed wire, no way to stow/hide, fixed arm length) make it annoyingly fall short of great. (Phone S24+, TPU case, ESR "magsafe" metal ring sticker) GREAT: Arm rotation (i.e. portrait/left to landscape/top) is super easy with one hand via a simple push of a button that clicks into position every 45 degrees. Great design unique to this model. Most others require a cumbersome loosening and retightening mechanism that is difficult with one hand and tedious to position where wanted. GOOD: Build quality. Secure and reliable attachment to screen without adhesive. Reliable wireless charging. Pad swivel/tilt is easy while staying tight and secure without any nut/screw to loosen. Includes attractive velcro (for carpet) and adhesive (for plastic) wire routing clips. SOSO: Magnet could be stronger to support phones (like mine) with a simple metal ring vs a fully magnetized magsafe insert - still holds strong enough while driving tho. No way to stow/hide the mount when not in use - no folding hinge - the pad bumps against the display when rotating down, so it won't rotate behind - no folding hinge either. Arm length not adjustable - my S24+ is positioned nicely as-is but larger phones may cover the Tesla display and smaller phones may be too far away from it. BAD: Wire too short to completely hide behind dash and under floor mat. Made worse by a permanently attached wire at the mount. Would be much better if attached via usbc, so it could be replaced with longer wire. NOTE: If a screen protector is installed on the Tesla display, this will cause it to bubble around the clamped edges.
