In 2017, he received the John Macpherson Berrien Award for lifetime achievement in the field of Georgia history and for outstanding service to GHS. Robert L. Brown, Jr. was a dear friend to the Georgia Historical Society (GHS). Over many years, he shared his wisdom and leadership to help advance the mission of GHS, especially in his service as Chairman of the GHS Board of Curators from 2012-2014. In 2017, he received the John Macpherson Berrien Award for lifetime achievement in the field of Georgia history and for outstanding service to GHS. Robert was inducted by the Governor of Georgia and GHS in 2020 as a Georgia Trustee, the highest honor the State can confer. He truly embodied the original Georgia Trustees’ motto, Non Sibi, Sed Aliis, Not for Self, But for Others. Through his life of service, GHS and the state of Georgia are better because of his many contributions.

At the gracious request of Robert Brown’s family, we invite you to contribute a gift in Robert’s memory toward the creation of an endowment fund in Robert's name at the Georgia Historical Society, to ensure that his commitment to and love of Georgia history will continue in perpetuity.

GHS provides memorial gift givers with a contribution receipt, and acknowledges receipt of the gift, and the donor's thoughtfulness, to the family (unless otherwise requested).  All gift amounts remain confidential.
