Done in 2000, this huge etching is 34.5" x 45" (88cm. x 114cm.). From an edition of 75, in immaculate condition.

This is a large and exceptionally fine etching by this great artist, in very good condition. These are impossible to find.

"The expression of facial psychology has rarely been achieved with the detailed realism of Fors. With Renaissance precision, he shows us what cannot be photographed, the spiritual state of suffering that our faces and expressions hide, the obscure realm of sentiment, the abysses of the heart, the desperate lonliness that destroys us"... Humberto Saldana.

This exquisite etching is typical of the kind of raw power Fors infuses into his work. This print was done in Guadalajara, Mexico, where Fors currently resides.

Born July 30, 1958 in Havana, Cuba. In 1967 his family moved to Mexico City, where he spent the last part of his childhood. He spent his adolescence in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In 1990, Carlos Avilez and José Fors founded the musical group CUCA, which performs irreverent rock and hard rock songs, forming part of one of the most recognized bands of these genres in Mexico.

In 2004, the University of Guadalajara published the book José Fors 25 Years, accompanied by a major retrospective exhibition at the University’s Museum of the Arts. Since 1991 he exhibits annually in his studio. With more than 63 solo exhibitions, 42 group exhibitions around the world, more than 20 recorded albums and a career of 30 years in the CUCA group, José Fors has become a benchmark of tapatío art, receiving countless awards and recognitions. Today, Fors works in Zapopan, Jalisco where he lives with his wife and son Jack.

His first single exhibition was at the Virginia Miller Galleries, Miami, Florida in 1979. He has had notable exhibitions from Miami, Florida to Washington, DC to Boston, Massachusetts to Winnipeg, Canada to Tokyo, Japan to Guadalajara, Mexico.

Very funny! Recommended!
Format: Paperback
A wonderful example of 18th century humor as Fielding relates the adventures of an innocent young man often pursued by predatory women- a reversal of the usual situation. The elegant prose enhances the humor. The downside is the turgid introduction which is a barrier to one’s enjoyment of the story.

Pamela reimagined
Format: Kindle
Having just read (and enjoyed) Samuel Richardson’s Pamela, Shamela cleverly and wickedly reimagines that novel, while compressing the original’s 500 pages into 30 or so. Shamela the main character is a conniving and loose woman, a master manipulator who spends down her husband’s fortune while cuckolding him. She is as different from Richardson’s heroine Pamela as the town of Pottersville is from Bedford Falls ( the latter is Jimmy Stewart’s idyllic home in the movie It’s a wonderful Life, and the former is the dystopian place it would have been without Stewart.) Shamela reminded me of Frank Capra’s movie, where characters notable for their decency and kindness are transformed into their opposites, in this case for satirical purposes. Shamela can only be enjoyed after reading Richardson first and even in the right order it is something of a guilty pleasure.

Good for insights into mid-eighteenth century society in England. Some scenes improbable, some hilarious. Overall very good.

Necessary and humorous companion to Pamela
Format: Kindle
After reading Richardson’s novel Pamela, this satire gives at least some perspective to the story as the “other side of the coin” and perhaps tempers the almost unbelievable virtue displayed in Pamela. However, reading these in 2018 with perspective of 250 years of history available to us, they are a good reminder that it’s still a dog eat dog world, as seen through the #metoo movement of 2017. Men in power abusing sex, other men in power blaming women as gold-diggers. Maybe now this ages old tale gets a new ending?
