Це історія про українця з карпатського села, життя якого розчавили імперії, але не зламали його духу. Юнаком його насильно вивезли на примусові роботи до Німеччини. Після років тяжкої праці і поневірянь він нарешті повертається до Карпат. Та щойно життя починає налагоджуватись — за місяць до весілля радянська влада депортує всю його родину, включно з малими дітьми, товарним вагоном на Урал, де вони змушені оселитися в брезентових наметах посеред сніжної пустелі. Десять років без права повернення в Україну…

Але чоловік не зламався. Після заслання він переїжджає до Криму, де долучається до боротьби за незалежність України в часи, коли за таке кидали за ґрати. А згодом переїжджає до Черкас. І аж на схилі літ він повертається в Карпати востаннє, щоб вклонитися горам і людям, які дали йому силу.

Це не лише його особиста доля. У житті діда Андрія відображена боротьба цілих поколінь, понівечених тоталітарними режимами, але непереможних у своєму прагненні до свободи. Його боротьба перегукується з нинішньою — бо зло, яке нищило Україну тоді, продовжує це робити досі.
