Josie Tipler - British Contemporary Artist

Josie Tipler is a contemporary British artist working within the still life tradition, creating works that celebrate natural objects through careful observation and skilled technique. Contemporary still life artists honor centuries of still life practice while bringing modern sensibilities and approaches to timeless subjects. ✨

British artists have maintained particularly strong connections to still life painting, creating works that combine observational skill with aesthetic refinement.

Still Life Tradition

Still life painting has flourished for centuries, from Dutch Golden Age masterpieces through Impressionist innovations to contemporary practice. The genre allows artists to control every element of composition, explore relationships between objects, celebrate material beauty, and create works of contemplative depth. Contemporary still life artists inherit this rich tradition while bringing modern vision and techniques. 🎨

Shells as Subject

Shells have captivated artists for centuries, offering rich opportunities to explore natural form, intricate patterns, subtle color variations, textural complexity, and the beauty of marine life. Shell still lifes connect to the tradition of natural history illustration while serving purely aesthetic purposes, celebrating the extraordinary diversity and beauty of these natural objects. 🌊

The study of shells allows artists to demonstrate technical skill in rendering complex forms, surfaces, and the play of light on curved, reflective surfaces.

Natural History & Art

The depiction of shells bridges art and natural history, connecting to the long tradition of artists documenting and celebrating the natural world. Shell collections have fascinated collectors since the Renaissance, with rare specimens prized for their beauty and rarity. Artists depicting shells honor both scientific observation and aesthetic appreciation. 💫

Artistic Merit & Observation

This work demonstrates Tipler's careful observation of natural forms, her ability to render the complex surfaces and patterns of shells, her understanding of light and shadow on curved forms, and her engagement with the still life tradition. The piece rewards both immediate viewing—the beauty of the shells themselves—and extended contemplation of the artist's technical skill and compositional choices. 💎

Contemporary Still Life Practice

Contemporary still life artists work within a genre that has evolved over centuries while remaining fundamentally concerned with observation, composition, and the beauty of objects. Modern still life can range from traditional realism to contemporary interpretations, from classical arrangements to unexpected combinations, maintaining the genre's vitality and relevance. 🖼️

British Art & Natural Subjects

British artists have long excelled at depicting natural subjects, from botanical illustration to wildlife painting to still lifes of natural objects. This tradition combines scientific observation with artistic skill, creating works that are both accurate and aesthetically pleasing. Tipler's work participates in this distinguished British tradition. 🏛️

Ok
Style: Modern
Works ok. You have to turn the dial to get the treats to come out. Too big and too much comes out quickly so not very challenging to my pup. Too small and the treats won’t come out at all.

Finally slowed my dog down
Style: Modern
This toy is 100% worth the price. My dog is a mini Aussie and this had him engaged for 20 minutes trying to get his food. It looks adorable with the added detail of the dogs. The size is a bit smaller since it is not able to fit his full cup of food in it. The quality is amazing and he didn't immediately break it. It's very easy to use and adjust the size of the holes to make it harder. Love the engagement it provided to my pup.

Kept dog entertained! 🐾
Style: Modern
Love this toy! Glad it kept my dog busy and he really has to work for the treats inside. It rolls well and is fairly light weight. My only complaints is that if you have a strong/heavy chewer be mindful that it will rip through the plastic eventually so your dog could ingest it. For reference I have a maltipoo. 😂

My Puppy Loves this Indestructible Dragon
Size: Large, Color: Pink, Size: Large, Color: Pink
My puppy (8 month old black lab mix) loves, loves, loves her dragon. She has had it for 2 months now. It is one of her favorites and gets daily rough play time. It's her go-to toy for fetch and tug games, as well as just general mouthy play. The squeaker gave out after about 4 weeks, but she would binge squeak for prolonged periods (kind of like chomping on gum) so it was almost a blessing when it went silent. She still chomps on it, but at least now I don't have to hear it. Other than the fact that it's a little grungy and bedraggled from so much loving, it is still in amazing shape. The seams and fur are all still intact. There are no visible holes, rips, or weak spots. I love Chew Guard Technology. This dragon replaced her goDog Iguana (from PetSmart) that developed a tear in the fur after about 4 months of heavy use. (It was superficial, just the outer fur layer and not the innards, but we disposed of it before she could eat more fur.) She can be pretty rough on her toys and I can never predict if any given toy will last minutes or months. The goDog stuffies definitely fall into the "months" category, even with rough daily use. Edit: The dragon lasted about 6 months of intensive, hard play before it developed a small tear in the fur. I patched it a couple times, but once my pup discovers a weak spot, it's the kiss of death for any stuffed item. We had to dispose of the dragon (so sad) to keep her from eating any more of the fur. We replaced the dragon with the goDog Chameleon, which is still going strong. I think we will go back to the dragon for our next toy because it's just so darned cute. We gave the dragon to my niece for her golden retriever puppy who is very chew-happy. That dragon is also doing well. You've just gotta love that chew-guard technology. This is one tough toy.
