This wonderful High Hutch Sideboard was found in a stunning country estate in the Heart of Sussex. We fell in love immediately with its colour, its charm and excellent condition, showing how well the piece had been made all those years ago.

We discovered this exceptional Johannes Andersen highboard in a beautifully preserved country estate nestled in the heart of Sussex. The home, built in the early 1960s, was a haven of refined modernism — its owners having carefully curated their interiors with iconic Scandinavian furniture, including this standout piece.

Positioned for decades in a sun-drenched dining room that overlooked manicured gardens, the cabinet was treasured. Its finish remains warm and lustrous, a testament not only to the enduring quality of Wilhelm Schauman Oy’s Finnish craftsmanship but also to the care it received.

What truly drew us in was its multifunctionality — from the green-felt-lined drawers and writing compartment to the tambour doors and sculpted handles, every element speaks to mid-century innovation. From a full charge, the toy will keep your dog entertained all day. Bright orange color makes it much easier to find when it’s rolled behind the toilet (as it did this afternoon). Sturdy. Highly resistant to chew damage. If this one wears out or breaks, I’ll absolutely get another one.
