Yet, as time moved forward the western side was defined by the creation of New Hanover County in 1729 and Johnston County in 1746. However, earlier the eastern side was carved to create Carteret County in 1722. Craven County was reduced again with the formation of Jones County in 1779. However, earlier Ð the eastern side was carved to create Carteret County in 1722. Craven County was reduced again with the formation of Jones County in 1779. Finally, in 1879 Craven and Beaufort were reduced in size to jointly form Pamlico County.
Craven County preserved three boxes of road records. Volume-1 of Craven Co. Road Records (already published) covers the earliest records from 1767 (Colonial) to 1839. This book corresponds with both Box 2 and Box 3 Ð thus completing all of the road records (for this county collection). Craven Co. also has a very nice collection of ferry and mill records, already in book form (by this author).
