Dealers and private collectors paid a record sum of $506,660 for porcelain at the first of the long-awaited Rene Fribourg auctions.

The new total, which more than doubled the $240,800 paid in 1961 at a one-day porcelain sale, was set at Sotheby's auction house in just over an hour.

Today's sale represented only half the collection of rare porcelains acquired by Mr. Fribourg, a New Yorker who died last February leaving an estimated $3,000,000 worth of 18th-century French furniture and art.

The collection, which the Belgian-born grain merchant packed into his East 84th Street mansion, was so large and so valuable that Sotheby's decided to dispose of it at seven auctions. The first three are being held this week and the remainder, including the rest of the porcelain, will take place in October.

Very sturdy, the cushions make it super comfortable. The size and ease of movement are perfect. Assembly was super easy. A very quiet chair. Wonderful all around value.

Good Basic Chair with a Few Drawbacks
Color: Black
I bought this Amazon Basics office task chair for my boyfriend who works from home. Overall, it’s a decent, simple chair that gets the job done for everyday use, especially if you just need something functional and affordable. However, there are a couple of downsides. The recline doesn’t go back as much as he would like, so it’s not ideal if you prefer to lean back and relax between tasks. Also, after about a month of use, the wheels don’t glide as smoothly as they did at first, which can be a bit frustrating when rolling across the floor. Overall, it’s a solid basic chair for light use, but if you want something with a deeper recline or super smooth mobility long-term, you might want to consider other options. Still a reasonable purchase depending on your needs.

Had for just over 9 years now and still pretty solid
Color: Black
I ordered this chair back in December 2015 for our front office, and it's been moved to our back shop where we fabricate. We're not a gentle work space by any stretch of the imagination; we build stuff and it's messy, lots of tools etc. This chair has held up surprisingly well! The faux leather is delaminating almost entirely on the seat but honestly, I'd expect that for faux leather on something that is used daily. The seat pad, in my opinion, has gotten de-poofed. So it's not plush anymore but still usable. I've asked the guy that's using it if they want an upgrade/update and they said they like it and don't want to change it out just yet. That's saying something! The size is nice and wide. We've had a range of differently sized folks sit in the chair over the years and the seat was always comfortable (less now without so much seat poof), I was able to sit cross-legged and the whole chair felt sturdy then as it does now. All of the standards functions you'd want an office chair to do, it can still do: it goes up and down smoothly, it rolls just fine, it's still pivot-reclines comfortably and doesn't feel like it's going to topple. I like it!

Good enough
Color: Black
Comfortable chair. Easy to put together. Allen nuts aren't cut perfectly so sometimes hard to get the wrench in there. My biggest complaint, and I didn't even realize this until I sat down in it, the arm rests are not adjustable and they are a little short for my liking.
