Regularly changing the filter also helps prolong the life of the water pump.
Instructions

Rinse the carbon filter prior to use. This will remove any loose carbon dust from the filter, which is harmless to your pet. A small amount of carbon dust may shed for the life of the filter.

Place the filter inside the plastic housing case with the large side facing down. The filter will only fit the case one way, if it does not fit, flip it over.

Attach the lid to the case, press down until it snaps in place.
Filters help extend the life of your fountain and pump and should be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks.
