ᝰ THE STORY

The hands of Wayan Muditadnyana rest firmly on one of the delicate pages of his treasured lontars—handmade manuscripts crafted from dried palm leaves, inscribed with sacred stories, religious texts, and poetry. More than just written records, lontars are living archives of Balinese identity, passed down through generations as symbols of spiritual power and cultural continuity. Yet, with fewer Balinese able to read and write Sanskrit, flawlessly executed lontars have become exceedingly rare. Pak Mudita, now 92, is believed to be among the last remaining masters of this ancient craft.

Despite his age, his mind remains sharp, though shadowed by concern for the future. “I have wanted to teach the young children of Tenganan village the high level of Balinese language,” he laments. “They cry because it is too hard! It seems they no longer have the ambition to learn new things. It makes me dizzy at times to see what our world has become.” His voice, tinged with deep dismay, softens as he reflects on the stark changes between generations. “Today’s biggest obstacle is the smartphone. From morning until night, children play with their phones! I do not agree with that, but what can I do? They do not want to learn the things they should. When I was a child, there was no radio, no TV, no phone. Our lives revolved around Balinese traditions—puppet shows, reading lontars, writing poetry, and practicing our sacred dances.”

A true savant and distinguished scholar, Pak Mudita still masters five languages, including Old Javanese (Kawi) and the various levels of Balinese, along with its ancient script, Aksara Bali. With quiet pride, he shares one of his most cherished works. “I wrote this lontar myself. It took me two years. It is one of my favorites. I even engraved its title in golden letters. The story tells of a young hero facing many trials. Let me chant a few verses for you now.” As the photograph captures this moment, The Lontar Master holds the fragile manuscript with reverence, fingers gently pressing against the centuries-old script while his voice breathes life into its verses.

For centuries, lontars have safeguarded the myths, teachings, and wisdom of the Balinese people. Yet today, they are vanishing. The intricate art of their creation has become so demanding that no more are being written. When representatives from UNESCO once visited Pak Mudita and offered him Rp.400 million (about 25,000 USD) for his manuscripts, he refused. Some things, he believes, are beyond price.

Pak Mudita passed away in June 2025. With him, a chapter of Bali’s living memory also fades. But The Lontar Master lives on—as a voice, a witness, and a keeper of a vanishing world.

      Beautiful
      Color: Best Dad-brown
I got this for my husband for Father’s Day and I know he’s going to love it! It’s very simple with a beautiful colored leather, great stitch/leather quality, a hearty quote with a cute design, and perfect size for what is usually kept at the bedside.

Good looking and the wireless charging works great
      Color: Best Dad-brown
I have a confession to make, I(a dad) bought this for myself. I was looking for something to keep on the night stand next tot he bed without getting to big. I only wanted something to charge my phone and put the tv remotes in, I have no interest in keeping my keys, watch or spare change in reach of our younger children....most of the other options I found were much bigger for all those purposes. This one is well made, looks great, and the wireless charger is very easy with my iphone, even while in its case. I dont even need to center it in the charging pad, which was my only fear. I can lay my phone anywhere in there and it charges flawlessly. If you are looking for a gift for your dad, I would not hesitate.

Charger works great, tray is solid
Color: Best Dad-brown, Color: Best Dad-brown
I've only used wireless chargers in passing before, and always had issues with them consistently 'activating.' I've had no issues with this one at all, the tray makes it very easy to line it up. Slide the phone all the way into the groove and it's charged flawlessly for me. My phone does have a case, though it's not a very thick one like an otterbox, which I imagine would make the charging more inconsistent. The tray as a whole is very solidly built and well made, it is listed as 'vegan leather' so I'm assuming it's not actual leather, but you honestly can't tell the difference. My biggest complaint is how cheesy the saying on the tray is (even though I am a dad), but that is well worth putting up with for how nice the tray is.

Not bad, but charger didn't work with my phone
      Color: Best Dad-brown
I have several organizing trays on my desk (basic, nothing as nice as this box), and so I thought to reduce the clutter on my desk further by incorporating my QI charger with an organizer tray. Unfortunately the QI charger in the organizer wouldn't link up to the QI charging coils of my phone. Whereas the organizer's charger did work with my wife's S24 Ultra, and my phone has been working on a separate QI charger. The whole point in spending this much money on this organizer is for the QI charger. Without the charger working it's just too expensive as an organizer. Yes, it has a leather look to it, but even with that finish I'd say $25 max would be all I'd be willing to pay for such an organizer. So this a cautionary point. If you give this as a gift it may not work with the recipients phone.

Effective & Attractive with Wireless Charging
      Color: Blue, Color: Blue
This "valet" organizer, which is the first time I've heard that term for a product like this, is nearly perfect. For me, it checks all of the boxes and in a perfect world, I would have opted for a smaller piece with only three compartments for mobile, wallet, and keys. It's well made and quite attractive, especially the blue (favorite color, so I'm biased). The only feature I'm not a fan of is how the removeable, wireless charging pad was implemented, which sits up on a small lip at a slight incline. However, I'm not complaining one bit as the wireless charging is great, and it's a differentiator that determines the value of the piece. I would have preferred the pad be built into the piece, however the angle of it does make it easy to grab opposed to using your finger(s) to pry it up.
