Closing the Bones is part massage and part ritual.
This can be done after the birth of a baby, after a loss or to close this chapter of your life; it creates a moment of stillness and is a time of reflection and peace. We are forever postpartum and so there is always still time for a Closing the Bones ceremony; it's a gorgeous ceremony to honour you, whatever part of the journey you are on.
During the ceremony, the abdomen and hips are massaged with a warming oil and are then gently rocked with a rebozo. The hips, followed by the rest of the body are then bound together with separate rebozos; being held like this is very nurturing. As this is an abdominal massage, it can feel very raw, vulnerable and intimate; please know that we go at your pace and can stop/pause if you need or want to.
Throughout the session, Reiki and Crystal therapies will also be incorporated if you so wish.
We incorporate singing (don't worry, Arte does the singing, you're not expected to!), poetry and drumming into this ceremony, should you be happy with that.
Please note, times are approximate as it depends how much talking is done, too, but approximately 60-90 minutes as a guide.
Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes; this is an abdominal massage and Arte will need to move your trousers/leggings etc slightly so that they can massage your abdomen and your hips.
If you have a young baby/babies, you are of course welcome to have them there and Arte will do their best to work around them however it is often easier if someone else can watch them whilst this takes place. Due to the ceremony, it is often more relaxing if nobody else is in the room.

Currently, only weekend appoints are available to book online. If you require an appointment outside of these hours such as midweek, please get in touch and we'll see what we can do.

Accessibility
Please note that access to the property is up some steps and is not accessible for wheelchairs. If you struggle with steps, please do let me know as you can use the back door. The toilet is located upstairs. For anyone with allergies, we also have a cat who will not be in the room at the time.
This is usually done in the traditional method by which we mean it involves you laying on the floor (on a mat of course). It can be adapted to be done on a massage table if required; we need to know about this in advance of the session though so please pop a message to us when booking.
