A direct replacement for Cave in Rock Switchgrass

New and improved Switchgrass:

  • Chippewa is a new late season variety of upland switchgrass with genetics tracing back to Cave-in-rock.
  • Very tall height and high yield potential – likely to reach 7 8 feet tall along the I-35 states, and up to a foot taller moving east to Wisconsin and beyond.
  • Chippewa is very similar genetics to Big Rock, but is 4-6″ shorter and about 1 week earlier maturing.
  • Genetically improved for fast establishment, upright growth habit and increased height, making it an ideal choice for high quality habitat for deer.
  • Provides a better wintering habitat for pheasants and quail than Cave-in-Rock; very good standing switchgrass and resistant to lodging.
  • Large seeded variety selected for reduced seed dormancy, increased seed weight and increased seedling vigor.
  • Well adapted to drill-seeding. Can be frost seeded, but may be risky on sandy soil.
  • Excellent winter hardiness (Zone 4A) for a late season variety
  • Like Cave-in-Rock it grows well on diverse soil types and has a wide regional adaptation to states in the mid-west and northeast regions (Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania).
  • A multi-purpose grass variety suited for forage, biomass, soil conservation and wildlife habitat applications.
  • Best adapted to regions that receive on average greater than 26″ of average annual precipitation
  • For regions that receive 26-30″ consider a blend of Tecumseh and Chippewa
  • For regions that receive more than 30″ use Chippewa or Big Rock
  • For regions that receive less than 26″ use Tecumseh

Seeding rate is 8-10 pounds per acre broadcast for screening, 7-8 pounds per acre drilled for screening.

Bedding areas can be 6-7 pounds broadcast and 5-6 pounds drilled. The final design of a bedding are will determine the pounds per acre need.

The bone lasted a long time.
My border collie is a chewer. I can look at a toy and tell you how long it’s going to last. This bone has lasted months and she still will grab it and chew on it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – Finally, a Dog Toy That Actually Lasts!
We picked up this natural leather bone dog toy hoping it would survive longer than the usual toys our dog destroys in a day—and wow, it exceeded every expectation. The leather is thick, durable, and clearly great quality. Our dog has tried his best to tear it apart (like he does with every toy), but this one has held strong. It’s been weeks now, and the toy still looks almost new. No frayed seams, no stuffing everywhere, no pieces breaking off. Just a solid, long-lasting toy that keeps our dog entertained without us having to constantly replace it. If you’re tired of wasting money on toys that only last a few hours, this natural leather bone is absolutely worth it. Tough, safe, and built to last—our dog loves it, and so do we!

Great chew toys
Dogs love! Not rough on teeth. They do tend to pull long strings of thread off the leather and felt, which must be intercepted and cut off lest we have a string linear foreign body. I wish the whole held together a bit better. Fierce corgis can go through these pretty quickly.

Long lasting
My dog still plays with this and we have at it for months! Great chew toy for chewers, took her awhile to chew into it and even if pieces fall off I know it is not plastic. Great value for the money. Does not squeak so that’s a plus!
