These diver's watches are a remake of a 1980s model we produced until around 35 years ago. The watch features a robust stainless steel case and is equipped with a high-performance automatic 21,600 bph 21-jewel self-winding movement. We have made several upgrades to the original design, including a shatter and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and an increased water resistance rating. The dial and caseback are both unbranded (referred to in the military as sterile), giving the watch a clean, uncluttered appearance.

Historical and Technical Background:

This watch is based on a 1980 UK MOD specification for automatic diver's watches (DEF STAN 66-4 [Part 1] Issue 3). This specification called for a unidirectional bezel and a boldly marked dial with tritium paint and a mineral glass crystal. Although this watch is made in the spirit of the 1980 watches, it includes improvements such as the sapphire crystal, Non Radio Active Luminova and increased water resistance.

Key Features and Upgrades:

  • Movement: High-performance automatic 21,600 bph 21-jewel self-winding movement with a 40-hour reserve
  • Crystal: Shatter and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating
  • Water Resistance: 300m / 1000ft
  • Design: Sterile dial and caseback for a clean appearance
  • Visibility: Uses Luminova for excellent nighttime visibility
  • Strap: 20mm NATO strap, with a variety of color options available for easy customization

Specifications:

  • Water Resistance: 300m / 1000ft
  • Crown: Screwdown locking
  • Caseback: Screw caseback
  • Dimensions:
    • Width: 45mm including the crown, 40mm excluding the crown
    • Thickness: 15mm
    • Crystal Diameter: 31mm
    • Lug to Lug: 49mm
  • Weight: 89.5g
  • Movement: 21-jewel 21,600 bph with a 40-hour reserve
  • Strap: 20mm NATO webbing strap
  • Packaging: Giftbox included

Benefits of Sapphire Crystal:

Many customers ask about the benefits of sapphire crystal over standard mineral crystal. Synthetic sapphire is extremely strong, shatter-resistant, and scratch-resistant, making it ideal for military and security personnel, police officers, and active outdoor enthusiasts. These groups account for over 70% of our customer base.

Our observations show that over 90% of incidents involving cracked watch crystals occur with mineral glass. Even hardened mineral crystals do not match the durability of sapphire. Sapphire crystals are strengthened through heat treatment to remove internal stresses and are then coated with two layers of anti-reflective coating. While sapphire crystals are more expensive, they offer superior longevity, resilience, and performance, justifying their use in higher-end watches.

These models represent excellent value and are very competitively priced for such a high-performance automatic watch. This watch combines the historical design and functional integrity of its predecessors with modern upgrades to meet the needs of today's professionals and enthusiasts.

Satyajit Ray's Great Trilogy Masterpiece Gets the Criterion Treatment In Blu Ray!
Years before trilogies were in vogue, way before "The Godfather" there was "The Apu Trilogy". The original negatives were lost in a fire and yet Criterion has managed to work miracles with this masterful restoration of this beautiful classic tale of the life of a Bengalese child to adulthood over 3 films. The story is compelling and absorbing and directed as only a master like Satyajit Ray can. Any attempt to further describe this movie would just not do justice to it; it has to be experienced and rewards repeated viewing. This release also includes a 48-page booklet of essays on the film in addition to the 3 blu ray discs of the films. Great sound and picture quality is evident as well considering the film's age and source master. This worthy addition to any art-film buff's video library comes highly recommended!

    What is the point? (SPOILER)
My heading echoes the adult Apu who, in the last movie in the trilogy says, "What is the use?" and allows the pages of his autobiographical novel to blow away in a wind. In the first two movies we enter the very real life of a rural Indian family whose members are all lovingly created by director and actors. But their story is rather sad. First Apu's young sister dies of illness, a fate shared much later by their father. Then the life of the mother dwindles away and Apu is left alone. The restoration of the nearly-destroyed films is a technological marvel, but I wondered if this tale would attain to anything of lasting value by the end. With the third and last movie in this series, I can reach a somewhat different conclusion. There is death and suffering in this last part too as Apu's wife dies early on but the entire narrative reaches a sudden and surprising resolution when Apu unites with his long-abandoned little boy who is himself a mirror of Apu growing up. There is something of a vacuous Asian experience in this cinematic telling but it doesn't really come to nothing as the stereotype might suggest. I recall that experience in David Lean's rendering of E.M.Forster's A Passage to India, a wonderful movie too but, like the novel, lending itself to earlier Western ideas about the East. An element of life, freedom, joy bursts upon us at the end of Ray's movie and transforms everything we have seen before. Yes, life is risky, unpredictable, filled with suffering, but it can still lead to something wonderful.

    Masterpieces of Indian cinema
A memorable trilogy by Indian master filmmaker, Satyajit Ray. My personal favourite of the three is the first one, Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road). It is a moving and extraordinary portrait of rural poverty in India, focused on the trials and tribulations of a struggling family. This trilogy is a must for the collections all lovers of world cinema.

    Custom Mailer
Excellent item as you probably know . I'm THRILLED about the shipping all around & fast delivery to porch but I would like to compliment whomever is responsible for custom cardboard mailer it came in. I worried reading some of the major complaints from recent years about packaging issues and damages suffered to box & DVD's . It would appear that the manufacturers corrected this issue. I'm very happy with our distribution outlet in El Paso , Texas . I'm west 90 miles from in New Mexico and I think they terrific and professional. Not one order came damaged , late or poorly packaged so Thank You all responsible parties. Oh yeah , the ''Essential Fellini'' anthology ( minus a few films not added and missing correct documentary Ive seen about the director ) is your final replacement !

The best Fellini collection on the US market
The collection is a bit pricey, but in this case you get what you pay for. These movies have all been restored beautifully, and the box is a delight. The packaging is a fairly sturdy cardboard box. It is quite large, so you may have trouble fitting it onto a bookshelf. Mine protrudes about an inch past the end of my shelf. Inside the box is a large folio for the discs and two novel-sized books. One is a guide to each of the films, and the other is full of essays about Fellini and his work. The movies all look great. The blu-ray upgrades look great compared to my old vhs or dvd copies of some of his works. There was a new restoration of all of these films right before the set came out, and it shows. The black and white contrast looks crisp and the color films really pop. As for the quality of the films, you know that some of these are considered top films of all time. The lesser films are still good to great. I think that all of these films are worth watching over and over, and all of them have great special features. All in all, this set is very much worth it, especially during the July sale. I bought it half price, and I feel I got an incredible bargain. All in all, this is probably the best Criterion box set. Don't hesitate, buy it.
