A charming and characterful still life composition executed in tempera on board in 1979, by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.
The painting presents a neat arrangement of five bright green pears – four whole and one sliced open to reveal its pale, almost translucent interior. The fruits are evenly spaced across a deep brown tabletop, their rounded forms casting bold, graphic shadows that anchor them to the surface. Scattered leaves add a touch of organic movement, their linear veins painted in stylised strokes.
The palette is wonderfully restrained yet vivid: fresh greens for the pears, muted earthy browns in the background, and stark black accents used for shadow and seed detail. The brushwork is clean and deliberate, with flat planes of colour and minimal blending, giving the piece a graphic, almost poster-like quality.
