In diesem Gesellschaftsspiel kämpfen 2 bis 4 Spieler um die Vorherrschaft in Mittelerde, wobei sie strategisch Truppen platzieren, Gebiete erobern und legendäre Charaktere wie Elben-Bogenschützen, Orks und Ringgeister einsetzen.

Der Spielplan umfasst bekannte Regionen wie Gondor, Mordor und das Auenland und beinhaltet spezielle Mechanismen wie Festungen, Heerführer und die parallele Reise der Gefährten Frodo und Sam. Das Spiel bietet mehrere Modi, darunter Standardregeln, einen Missionsmodus sowie Teamplay, bei dem die Spieler entweder gegeneinander oder in Kooperation antreten können.
